Where the main series begins with Team Ghost, Plum Island, and national command, Survival begins with John Eric Carver, his military working dog Shrek, and the conversion of a California Boy Scout camp into the settlement of Lost Valley. It is the branch that asks what the Extinction Cycle looks like when the center of the story is not a classified Delta team, but a retired SEAL, a war dog, a mother, a teenager, a camp ranger, scattered Marines, pilots, naval survivors, and a community trying to become a town.
