Scion Variant Hierarchy
Scions are the engineered elite of the Dark Age enemy hierarchy. They are not ordinary surviving Variants. They are transformed followers and commanders.

Origin and first appearance
Scions become central in Dark Age, especially as Azrael surveys conquered outposts and moves through his hierarchy. Jonah is one of the named Scions, described as one of the oldest successful transformations and a loyal servant of the Prophet.
Physical traits
Scions retain enough human structure to walk, speak, use weapons, and follow orders, but their bodies bear the fruits of genetic modification. They have slitted nostrils, golden predatory eyes, talons or scything claws, sharp teeth, and night vision superior to ordinary humans.
Hunting behavior and command behavior
Scions serve as commanders, hunters, lieutenants, and religious enforcers. They bridge the gap between mindless Thralls and Azrael's own Prophet identity. Their loyalty gives Azrael an officer corps that can direct collaborators, Variants, and captives.
Major scenes and conflicts
Outpost Tulsa is a key introductory scene for the hierarchy. Jonah bows to Azrael, escorts him through the dead outpost, and speaks of Thralls eating well. The scene defines the Scions as the visible aristocracy of the New Gods movement.
Human impact
Scions make Dark Age different from the original war. The enemy now has doctrine, loyalty, hierarchy, ideology, and long-term strategy. They are the reason Team Ghost, Ringgold, Kate, and Reed cannot treat the remaining Variants as a dying remnant.
Countermeasures and weaknesses
Countering Scions requires more than extermination tactics. Humans must break command, disrupt webbing, expose collaborators, and defend outposts against enemies that understand both biology and military logic.
Why it matters
Scions matters because it shows that the Extinction Cycle enemy is not static. Every new form or named threat changes tactics, science, politics, or emotional stakes.
